Vegan diets and vegan wine have become increasingly popular in recent years. Generally, wine production is based on the fermentation of grapes. Therefore, wines are inherently plant-based products, and thus vegetarian and vegan by nature. This only changes with the permitted addition of clarifying agents.

Natural enjoyment without compromise. Enter the world of vegan wines with our selection, where quality and ethical enjoyment go hand in hand. Discover a diverse range of wines that will not only delight your palate but also support your convictions. Find out why vegan wines are the preferred choice for environmentally conscious wine lovers.

Vegan wines offer more than just enjoyment. They are characterized by the following advantages:

  • Natural cultivation: Vegan wines are made from grapes grown without animal products or chemical additives. This promotes sustainable agriculture.
  • No fining agents: No animal-based fining agents are used in production. Instead, vegan winemakers rely on natural methods such as bentonite or silica sol to clarify the wine.
  • Environmentally friendly: By avoiding animal products in winemaking, vegan wines contribute to reducing environmental impact, as the ecological footprint is minimized.
  • Transparent labeling: Vegan wines are often labelled with special markings that make it easier for consumers to identify and select them.

Facts about vegan wines

  • The clarification of vegan wines is often done using mineral substances such as bentonite or plant proteins.
  • Vegan wine can be just as diverse as non-vegan wine, ranging from dry to sweet and from white to red.
  • More and more wineries worldwide are focusing on vegan wine production to meet the increasing demand for ethical and sustainable products.

Experience uncompromising flavor. Enjoy a rich variety of aromas with vegan wines, naturally occurring. From fruity nuances to complex flavor profiles, vegan wines offer a world of taste without sacrificing ethical values.

Ready for a treat? Discover our exquisite selection of vegan wines and embark on a sustainable wine journey that will delight both your palate and your convictions. Buy now and experience natural enjoyment without compromise.

Why are wines often not vegan?

Some wines are not vegan because animal-derived additives are used during the winemaking clarification process to remove cloudiness and unwanted particles. These animal-derived fining agents can consist of gelatin, egg white, isinglass (also known as isinglass), or casein (a milk protein). These additives bind to the suspended particles in the wine and settle them at the bottom of the container, thus clarifying the wine.

The use of animal-derived fining agents means that the wine can no longer be considered vegan, as animal products are involved in the production process. This may be a concern for people who follow a vegan lifestyle or are ethically motivated to avoid animal products.

To produce vegan wines, winemakers use alternative clarification methods that are free of animal products. Here are some of these methods:

  1. Bentonite: A mineral clay used in winemaking to bind impurities and clarify the wine.
  2. Silica sol: A colloidal silica that acts as a clarifying agent and binds particles in wine.
  3. Plant proteins: Some wineries use plant proteins such as pea or potato protein to carry out the clarification process.

Switching to these alternative methods makes it possible to clarify wine without the use of animal products and thus label it as vegan.

It is important to note that many wineries have increasingly switched to vegan production in recent years to meet the growing demand for ethical and sustainable products. Labeling vegan wines helps consumers who wish to remain true to their ethical values to make the right choice.
