Since 1870, the Losi family, an old winemaking family in Chianti, has strived to produce high-quality wines, eventually becoming champions of Chianti Classico and sharing in its great rise to fame. The family patriarch at the time, Emilio Losi, was sensitive to the changing times. He dedicated himself to winemaking according to the new rules dictated by the market. Meanwhile, Tranquillo, a mezzadro (sharecropper), focused specifically on cultivating grapevines and olive trees on the Fontino and Querciavalle farms near the Chartreuse Monastery in Pontignano.
In 1954, Tranquillo Losi bought the Fontino and Querciavalle farms and founded what is now the Azienda Agricola Losi winery. Together with his three sons, Carlo, Emilio, and Alfiero, they managed the company in its early years.
In 1963, the Losi family became members of the Chianti Classico wine consortium and began bottling under their own label. The two cousins, Pietro and Paolo, continued their parents' work and, with significant investments, gave production an interesting new direction: combining quality and typicity.
In 1998, the Losi family bought the Pontignanello estate, and in the same year, Riccardo, Pietro's son who was only eighteen years old, began working for the company.
In 2005, his sister Valeria began developing sales to international markets within the family business.
The Losi family first bottled their Chianti Classico Querciavalle in 1969 and have managed to preserve the traditional and authentic wine culture of Chianti for five generations. In the 1990s, the family also acquired vineyards from neighbors, which led to the production of Chianti Classico Pontignanello and Il Brunone.
