Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of the Serego Alighieri winery, a jewel in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, surrounded by picturesque green hills and only a few kilometers from the historic old town of Verona and the enchanting pearls of Lake Garda.
This magnificent estate, whose precious vineyards have been famous for centuries, was acquired in 1353 by Pietro Alighieri, the son of the legendary poet Dante, when he followed his father into exile in Verona.
For an incredible 21 generations, the descendants of the great poet have inhabited this symbolic place in the winemaking history of Valpolicella. Here, the Counts Serego Alighieri, proud heirs of a long and noble winemaking tradition, share their deep love for this land, while Masi wholeheartedly supports them in the production of their exquisite wines.
Serego Alighieri is undoubtedly the oldest winery with an impressive culture and winemaking tradition in all of Valpolicella – a true journey through more than 650 years of history. It all began in 1353 when Pietro Alighieri acquired the Possessione Casal dei Ronchi estate in Gargagnago, right in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. This historic core still forms the heart of the entire estate today.
In 1549, the Alighieri family, which had only female descendants, united with the powerful Serego family from the Roman Empire. Since then, all descendants have proudly borne the double name Serego Alighieri. In the 16th century, Marcantonio Serego introduced innovative agricultural methods and implemented new ideas to increase the productivity of his lands. In the 18th century, the estate evolved into a place where agriculture was understood as a true science and art, and each crop was cultivated in its natural habitat. In the 1920s, following the devastating phylloxera epidemic, Pieralvise Serego Alighieri founded the agricultural school in Gargagnago to cultivate and preserve indigenous grape varieties.
Since 1973, Serego Alighieri has been among the prestigious wineries of Masi, distinguished by their historical and oenological value. Today, the estate proudly opens its doors, revealing the rich soul of Valpolicella and its unparalleled history, expressed in every glass of its exquisite wines.
