Quality and tradition – the ancient origins of our wines
The history of the court is naturally linked to that of the Leopardi family of counts, who boast of ancient origins, claiming to have come to Italy with the Teutonic Knights from Byzantium in the mid-4th century AD, first to Sicily and later to Rome. One of their members, Leopardo de' Leopardi, was sent by Pope Innocent I and appointed the first bishop of Auximum, present-day Osimo, an ancient city of Picene origin where pagan rites flourished. The bishop succeeded in converting the city to citizenship, but he paid for his achievements with martyrdom, which took place in 405 AD.
Count Piervittorio Leopardi
The company has been owned for several years by Count Piervittorio Leopardi Dittajuti, from a family deeply committed to agriculture with great dedication and professionalism. In the early 1980s, he and his father, Giuseppe, took over the family business and immediately began transforming the winery, which was deeply rooted in its past. Year after year, new vineyards were planted, focusing on the production of high-quality grapes, and modern cellars equipped with stainless steel machinery and equipment ensure the highest standards of environmental health and the preservation of materials that come into contact with food. His wife, Lidia, has been by his side since 1991, assisting him in managing the company and with marketing activities.
Since August 2003, the company has been under the oenological direction of Dr. Riccardo Cotarella, a world-renowned winemaker. In addition to the owner and the winemaker, the staff consists of several highly capable and experienced individuals:
- Manuele manages all the work in the vineyards. He has the perfect experience to decide what needs to be done to maintain the vineyards in the best possible way.
- Paolo is the wine technician responsible for the winery. He has a degree in oenology and a great passion for his work.
- Juanito is responsible for the cleanliness of the cellar and the entire winemaking process.
- Cristiano works in the office and in the basement, managing the warehouse for products, orders and deliveries to customers.
- Sara is a sommelier and takes care of the customers of the wine shop.
- Giada recently joined the company and also works as a sommelier in the store.
- Giorgio, Raffaele, Gino and Frank work in the vineyards all year round.
The production area
The company is located in the Marche region in the province of Ancona, in one of the most impressive hilly coastal areas overlooking the Adriatic Sea: the Conero Riviera.
The soil is marbled, calcareous, and of medium texture. The unique orographic, geological, and climatic characteristics of this region have always favored viticulture and enabled the production of high-quality grapes.
The climate is typically Mediterranean, influenced by the sea and frequent breezes. There is a large temperature difference between day and night.
