Cascina Radice – Top wines from the heart of Piedmont

In the picturesque village of Moasca in the Piedmont region of northern Italy lies the renowned Cascina Radice winery – a family business with a deep passion for traditional winemaking, a strong focus on quality, and profound roots in the regional wine culture. The estate was founded in 1981 by Roberto Mazzei, who set out with the dream of cultivating and perfecting the Barbera grape variety in Piedmont. Today, his son Andreas Mazzei continues to run the business with the same dedication and innovative spirit – together they form a well-coordinated father-son team, harmoniously blending tradition and modernity.

Family business with a commitment to quality and a vision

While Andreas focuses on viticulture and quality control, Roberto remains wholeheartedly involved in production and sales. The family places the utmost importance on traditional craftsmanship, sustainable cultivation, and collaboration with select, small wineries in the region. This allows Cascina Radice not only to produce its own exceptional wines but also to market hidden gems from other Piedmontese wineries under its own name – naturally, only if they meet the estate's exacting standards.

Barbera – the soul of Piedmont

The winery's focus is clearly on the Barbera grape variety, which thrives particularly well in the calcareous and marl soils of Monferrato and around Moasca. Thanks to the temperate climate with warm days and cool nights, the grapes ripen perfectly, developing their characteristic freshness and depth. The Barbera grape impresses with its vibrant acidity, complex fruit aromas, and pronounced structure, making it one of Piedmont's most popular varieties.

Modern basement technology meets traditional craftsmanship

Cascina Radice boasts a modern production facility and a well-equipped oak cellar where the wines are carefully matured. This combination of modern technology and traditional methods allows the full potential of each grape variety to be realized. Of particular note is the Barbera d'Asti Superiore, a flagship wine of the estate and a truly exceptional wine with remarkable depth and elegance.

Twelve days of maceration and 16 months of aging in French Allier oak barrels give this wine a complex aroma of ripe cherries, sweet plums, dark chocolate, and a hint of spice. A wine that will delight both connoisseurs and newcomers alike – and represents Piedmont at its finest.
