The founding family

Whiskey making and entrepreneurship have been in the Teeling family's blood since 1782, when Walter Teeling founded a small artisanal distillery on Marrowbone Lane in the industrial heart of Dublin. Since 2012, Jack and Stephen Teeling, the youngest generation of Teeling whiskey makers, have put their own stamp on Irish whiskey, and in 2015, the circle was completed when they proudly opened the new Teeling Distillery, located right next to the original family distillery. The Teeling Whiskey Distillery is now the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years.

“The whole process of creating whiskey takes around nine months start to finish, including pilot blends, trade sampling, cask selection and scaling up to full production… yet all that work, once bottled, takes just a moment to sip, savor and enjoy”

The heart of Dublin

We are located just a stone's throw from our original distillery, right in the heart of the Golden Triangle, the city's historic distillery district. The doors were built for both the city and production, and you are always welcome to look around, sample our products, and purchase one or two exclusive distilleries. Feel free to book a distillery visit.

The craft

The people at Teeling Whiskey are known for their vision of doing things differently. Their whiskeys embody this unconventional spirit, with innovation at the heart of everything they do. For them, the contents of the bottle matter – they let the liquid speak for itself, and their liquid has a lot to say.

The delicate base of Irish whiskey is the perfect canvas on which to layer flavor and character. Varying the time, style, and number of casks used during the maturation process contributes to the subtlety and complexity of flavor they are particularly proud of. Now that they are allowing their own Dublin distillate to mature, their ingenuity is the only limit to the unique styles and expressions they can create in the future.

Having invested all this care and attention in what goes into their whiskey, they want to take nothing out. They don't filter their whiskey before bottling, so that as much body, character, and richness as possible remains in the bottle. They bring their whiskey from cask strength to their signature ABV of 46%, which allows them to bottle without chill filtration, thus preserving the true, natural character of all their Teeling whiskeys.

Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of Teeling Whiskey's business philosophy across all its operations. They source sustainable raw materials and implement sustainable production processes wherever possible. Past initiatives include installing a rainwater harvesting system at their distillery; using their own well to reduce water consumption; and implementing energy optimization measures such as using surplus energy generated during production to heat their visitor center. In 2017, they received FEMAS accreditation for their spent grain and pot ale, which are sold as cattle and pig feed. FEMAS is a quality assurance scheme for animal by-products that helps ensure robust traceability throughout the food chain.

Teeling is very proud to be a verified Origin Green member. This pioneering program remains the world's only national sustainability program for food and beverages, driving sustainability improvements across the entire supply chain at a national level. It enables the Irish food and beverage industry to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets that respect the environment and more effectively serve local communities; it's about continuously measuring and improving. Where possible, we work with other Origin Green members. For example, we source our malted barley from Minch Malt (Boortmalt Ireland) and our unmalted barley from Glanbia, both of which are Origin Green certified.

Jack Teeling commented: “ As a local, artisanal producer, environmental sustainability is at the heart of our business model and expansion strategy. We are a member of the Irish Food Board’s Origin Green program, which commits us to a continuous improvement process in sustainability. Ireland enjoys a well-deserved reputation as a country with a high-quality environment at a time of increasing environmental threats. The Teeling Whiskey Company is inspired by this well-deserved reputation and will strive to approach sustainability in this spirit as we look to the future.
