Marzadro – Grappa art and family tradition since 1949
The story of the Italian distillery Marzadro begins in 1949 in Nogaredo, a small town in Trentino. Sabina and Attilio Marzadro fulfilled a dream: they wanted to produce fine grappa from the seemingly worthless pomace of local winegrowers. With a combination of hard work, tireless dedication, and a passion for distillation, they laid the foundation for a company that to this day stands for the highest quality and distinctive taste.
From the very beginning, Sabina and Attilio focused on tradition and craftsmanship. The first grappas were produced in a small still, custom-made for them by a local craftsman. Attilio transported the first bottles to the surrounding villages on a Moto Guzzi motorcycle with a sidecar – the start of a success story. Marzadro soon became synonymous with high-quality grappa, and the family gained regional renown for their dedication to perfection.
A love of nature and craftsmanship runs through the entire history of the distillery. Sabina experimented early on with wild mountain herbs and berries, which she gathered in the forests of Trentino, to refine the grappa with unique aromas. This creativity and respect for nature continue to shape Marzadro's philosophy today.
Over time, the distillery continued to evolve. In the 1970s, Marzadro was one of the first distilleries to produce grappa from a single grape variety – a revolution in the world of spirits. In the 1980s, the family introduced water bath distillation, a particularly gentle method that preserves the grappa's intense aroma and smoothness.
The 2000s marked the beginning of a new era. With the third generation of the family taking the helm, a young, innovative force assumed leadership. At the same time, Marzadro remained true to the founders' values: quality, authenticity, and a connection to the region. The distillery in Nogaredo was modernized and expanded, while preserving traditional elements.
Today, Marzadro impresses with a diverse selection of grappas, including the award-winning Le Diciotto Lune , which matures for at least 18 months in small wooden barrels, and the innovative Anfora , refined in clay vessels. This unique aging process results in a crystal-clear grappa with a harmonious flavor that perfectly captures the aromas of Trentino.
Marzadro stands for passion, innovation, and tradition. Every grappa is an expression of love for the region and dedication to the art of distillation.
