The Italian zest for life is back! Sommelier Andrea is traveling through Italy, visiting wineries with us. After the first stop at Malavasi, he spent the evening at the Manara winery in St. Floriano on Lake Garda. Wonderful wines from Valpolicella are what the two of them tasted. With a lively mix of German, English, and Italian, the viewers gained a good insight into the production and taste of the wines.

This tasting with winemaker Roman held a surprise for the audience: Van Volxem employee Tobias spontaneously joined the live conversation with sommelier Andrea. He came directly from working in the vineyards. Besides the three wines – all Riesling, of course – the three discussed spontaneous fermentation, wine storage, and the special characteristics of Saar wines.

Under perfect weather conditions, this tasting began at sunset with a wonderful view over the vineyards along the Saar River in Wiltingen. Winemaker Roman panned the camera across the panorama. He then sat in his wine shop and spoke with sommelier Andrea about his wines. He compared the Wiltinger Braunfels Riesling to a chamber concert with 30 musicians playing Mozart. In comparison, he likened a Luganer to a short-lived pop song by Britney Spears. The Alte Reben Riesling, one of Roman's most important wines, tasted of apricot, quince, and lychee. For Roman, the best mature vintages for Riesling are 2009, 2010, and 2012.

Winemaker Roman has a tremendous amount of positive energy and is a truly passionate person. He captivated the audience from the very first minutes of this live tasting. Our other winemaker, Andrea, barely got a word in edgewise. There was simply too much to tell about the winery. Roman Niewodniczanski is adept at using a mobile phone camera. Although it was his very first live tasting, he guided the audience through his vineyard. The tour included a stunning sunset in Wiltingen and a visit to the rare wine cellar. The wines were also tasted. These Rieslings were flavorful and very refined. We look forward to the next three events with winemaker Roman on Facebook and Instagram! Matthias practically still has the soil clinging to his fingernails: he speaks like an open book about his wine knowledge and the passion he has for cultivating the vines of his vineyard in the various locations and crafting them into high-quality wine. Silvaner is synonymous with Franconia, a sentiment shared by many viewers of the live tasting. Once again, numerous questions were asked about cultivation methods and culinary pairings. Silvaner is simply a top choice for asparagus. Whether Kapellenberg or Johannisberg is the better choice depends on the wine drinker's palate. A special highlight is the field blend, fermented from a variety of grapes to create a truly delightful taste experience.

At the fourth live tasting hosted by winemakers Eva and Urban, the two broadcast live from their wine shop in Eltville-Hattenheim. They discussed their plans for the period until guests can visit their winery again. They are also focusing on using the internet in other ways to connect with customers. Regarding the three wines tasted: The estate Chardonnay and the Blanc de Noirs are ideal accompaniments to asparagus and light meat dishes. Finally, the Pinot Noir was tasted. This wine pairs well with hearty dishes and red meat.

In this third live tasting with winemakers Eva and Urban, the second tasting package was discussed for the first time. Besides two white wines, it also includes a red. The estate Chardonnay and the Blanc de Noirs are ideal companions for asparagus and light meat dishes. Several users shared their culinary creations that they find pair well with these wines. Finally, the Spätburgunder (also known as Pinot Noir) was tasted. :-)

Blogger Benjamin Schmitt, aka "Benni," and winemaker Reinhard Seidel, aka "Reini," had arranged this meeting with Andrea via Instagram. First, blogger Benni joined the call and talked about the origins of the WEINCROWD brand. He handles the marketing and described himself as a real showman. Later, Reini joined the live tasting and spoke about his work in the wine cellar and details about the wines. They tasted the delicious 2018 Pinot Noir. The vines for this wine were planted back in 1976.

The second tasting from the Rheingau region features winemakers Eva and Urban, who run the VDP-certified Kaufmann winery in Eltville-Hattenheim. They produce top-quality wines, with Riesling accounting for 80% of the grape varieties cultivated in the Rheingau. The winery also offers Pinot Blanc, Blanc de Noir, Chardonnay, Silvaner, and Pinot Noir. The first package was tasted again with our sommelier Andrea, this time on Instagram. In Eltville-Hattenheim, they produce first-class wines. 80% of the grape varieties cultivated in the Rheingau are Riesling. Young winemaker Davide is joining us for the first time for a live tasting. Together with our sommelier Andrea, he tasted the Ripasso and the Amarone – two typical wines from the Valpolicella region. Live Tasting #5 on April 8, 2020 with Anna and Laurenz Schöfmann
Winemaker Anna comes from the Anton Schöfmann winery in the Weinviertel region of Austria. Together with her brother Laurenz, she represents the new generation at the traditional winery. In a live tasting, our sommelier Andrea spoke with them about two of their wines. Grüner Veltliner is one of Austria's most famous grape varieties. And you can find out in the video why red wine plays a special role around the Hutberg vineyard.

The winery of Elmar Schauß and his wife Simone is located in Monzingen on the Nahe River. Besides producing delicious red, rosé, and white wines, the couple also runs a guesthouse. In conversation with our sommelier Andrea, Elmar describes the special characteristics of his region, the history of the winery, and the story behind the "Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen" (a local specialty). The wines presented are a wonderful accompaniment to asparagus, but not exclusively so, during asparagus season.

Our first live wine tasting started right on schedule last Thursday in February. Sommelier Andrea and winemaker Jana chatted for just over 60 minutes about the Rheinhessen wine region, the Hauck winery, and their Sauvignon Blanc sur lie. Jana explained the origin of the "sur lie" designation: it refers to the extended time the wine spends on the lees. They also discussed other wines. The approximately 70 viewers asked numerous questions about the wines and which dishes pair well with these white wines. Founder Michael was also present and joined the conversation for the last third of the show. A viewer's question about the future of Winetory was answered as follows: "Winetory.net will only have a future as long as you, the community, enjoy our knowledge and the wines. To offer the best possible service, we need your ongoing feedback." During the tasting, we decided that we would like to discuss another wine from Jana Hauck with this very personable winemaker in the not-too-distant future!

About the live wine tasting from Winetory.net
Our goal is to create a unique wine community, bringing winemakers and wine enthusiasts together. We want to showcase life and work on the winery through photos and videos, giving you a deeper understanding of how a wine's quality ends up in your glass.
With the innovative format of Wine Live Tasting on Instagram, we enable direct exchange with our sommelier Andrea and the winemaker of the wine.
Our sommelier Andrea came to Germany from Italy 29 years ago. He has lived and worked in Munich for the past 19 years. In addition to running his sommelier school, he is a wine entertainer at events and a tour guide on his own wine tours through Germany and Italy.
Anyone can participate in the live wine tasting. The only requirements are that the Instagram app is installed on your mobile phone and that you are ideally in an area with Wi-Fi or sufficient network coverage (4G recommended) at the time the live wine tasting is broadcast.
Our sommelier, Andra Vestri from Munich, will open and taste the wines live with you and then discuss his opinion. But that's not all: the winemakers of each wine will also be there to answer your questions.
Interaction between sommelier and winemakers
During the live wine tasting on Instagram, all participants can ask questions and leave comments. These will be displayed directly. Sommelier Andrea and the participating winemaker will respond.
This format is a series. Live wine tastings will take place regularly, approximately every four weeks. Between tastings, the wines can be ordered via the Winetory.net product page. The videos will remain available on YouTube after the tasting, meaning you can join the live tasting at any time.
