The name of the Rigoloccio il Sorvegliante Costa Toscana Rosso, with its intense ruby red color, is a tribute to the workers' leaders of the old mines who once guaranteed the economy of the Metalliferous Hills of Grosseto. This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pet Verdot, and Merlot—aged separately in barriques—is a fundamental component in the production of Rigoloccio, the symbol of the winery's "Bordeaux vocation." Enveloping yet austere, Il Sorvegliante fully reveals its exceptional personality over the years.
- Color: Intense ruby red with violet reflections
- Bouquet: Complex with notes of roses, violets, dark berries, tobacco, slate, cinchona bark and balsamic nuances.
- Taste: Structured, fresh, with integrated tannins and a long, menthol-like finish; powerful and balanced
The four grape varieties are vinified separately. Maceration and fermentation take place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature (28°C) for three weeks with frequent pump-overs. The wines are then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. They are then blended and remain in stainless steel tanks for a further six months before bottling, where they undergo bottle aging for at least another six months [WoA].
