The Brunello di Montalcino, the flagship wine of Biondi-Santi, embodies the spirit of Tenuta Greppo and the unmistakable style of the winemakers, forged over a 150-year history with a balanced combination of fresh elegance, depth and aristocratic personality.

2017 was a year characterized by a lack of rain. A late frost occurred in spring, followed by some showers. The weather remained mild until the end of May, when temperatures rose significantly, exceeding the seasonal average. The summer was very hot and dry. The harvest began on September 11th. The 2017 Brunello was produced exclusively with a selection of Sangiovese Grosso grapes from our own vineyards. The 2017 Brunello was vinified in glass-lined concrete tanks using indigenous yeasts selected from our vineyards. It was then aged for three years in Slavonian oak barrels.

An encounter of fragrant fruits and balsamic spice. The bouquet of the 2017 Brunello is initially quite tentative, gradually revealing the breadth and depth of its aromatic elegance. From a bouquet of red berries, notes of red cherries emerge, accompanied by cool, spicy aromas and soothing sensations of dried tobacco leaves, licorice root, and citrus peel. On the palate, it surprises with an enviable balance between fine-grained tannins, refreshing acidity, and a fruity core. The spicy finish is long and enveloping, releasing subtle notes of thyme and rosemary [WoA].
