There are various types of South Tyrolean sweets, often enjoyed as spreads on bread in the early morning, including jam and honey. Some contain chocolate, such as chocolate-nut spread or chocolate-hazelnut spread. Another popular product is the so-called "nut-nougat cream," a spread made from hazelnuts and honey, which is also available in chocolate form. A very popular nut-nougat cream from the Italian manufacturer Ferrero consists primarily of sugar with ingredients including palm oil, roasted hazelnuts, milk powder, cocoa, soy lecithin, and vanillin.
In South Tyrol, there are many small companies and manufacturers, such as Oberhöller, that produce various types of spreads, including chocolate and nut spreads. These spreads often specialize in natural and regional ingredients and are frequently sold as gifts or specialty items.
