Wine region around Monzingen
The Vicinity It is also called the "Jewel of the Southwest" and here we find approximately 4,200 hectares Riesling , Rivaner, Silvaner, but also Burgundy varieties. But ultimately, Riesling is the benchmark for the winemakers in this region. Here it thrives on a wide variety of soil types, such as porphyry, Bunter sandstone, clay, loess, slate – and therefore we also have different Riesling varieties. Pictured here is the world-famous Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen vineyard, where the vines grow on partially weathered red slate and quartzite. A perfect environment also for Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. Besides the Schauß Winery I would also like to mention Emrich-Schönleber, Dönnhof, Gut Hermannsberg, Schlossgut Diel, Schäfer-Fröhlich, Dr. Crusius, Prinz Salm, and Johann-Baptist Schäfer. But the best thing that can happen to them is a sunny Sunday morning at Schlossgut Diel, a large glass of Riesling Spätlese in hand, admiring the wonderful landscape, the air filled with the sounds of Keith Jarrett's Cologne concert. A slice of heaven.
