Making your own mulled wine - the recipe
Of course, mulled wine is a must during the Christmas season. Like you from... Wine We'll show you how to make your own Feuerzangenbowle with just a few ingredients.
For the basic recipe you will need: (for approx. 10 cups of mulled wine)
- 2 liters red wine or white wine
- 1 liter of water
- 20 carnations
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- Sugar
- 2 oranges
To prepare the mulled wine, slice the oranges and then boil them in a pot with wine, water, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and sugar. For a more intense flavor, we recommend letting the mulled wine steep for a while longer. Feel free to adjust the amount of water; it depends on how strong you want your mulled wine to be.
Important: Mulled wine should not be heated to more than 80 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, the alcohol will evaporate and the spices will significantly impair the flavor.
Other ingredients often used in connection with mulled wine are star anise and lemon peels.
