Wine passion at the Hauck family winery

Hauck wine family

We believe that wines bearing our unique fingerprint are created precisely when we work together as a family. We are Jana and her parents, Heike and Heinz Günter Hauck. We have dedicated ourselves to wine with heart, hand, and mind. Jana manages the winery together with Heinz Günter and Heike Hauck and a team that shares our passion for wine.

Our home

Our home is Bermersheim vor der Höhe, a small wine village in the heart of Rheinhessen and the birthplace of Hildegard von Bingen (1098–1179). Our family, Hauck, has its roots here, and our work is a family tradition – the first records date back to 1727.

Wine with finesse

After generations of farming, Heike and Heinz Günter Hauck decided to focus on viticulture in 2000 – a bold and pioneering decision. Today, around 140,000 vines grow on 28 hectares, which we cultivate and care for as a family business, processing their yield with the utmost care and vinifying it with great expertise in the cellar.

Our grapevines

Our vines grow on clay and loess soils interspersed with limestone in the districts of Bermersheim vor der Höhe, Albig, and Ensheim. And all this at quite breezy altitudes of up to 262 meters above sea level. Here, wines with fruit and minerality, balance and finesse are created. Wines bearing our signature.

Quality originates primarily in the vineyard. That's precisely why we invest so much labor there. Everything we do here is geared towards harvesting healthy, fully ripe, and aromatic grapes. We achieve this through controlled yields, thoughtful and gentle mechanical vineyard management – and a great deal of manual labor, including during the grape harvest.

Bermersheim grapes

Our focus is on the classic white Burgundy grape varieties, Silvaner and Riesling. Since we're quite curious, we can't resist cultivating some more exotic varieties like Auxerrois and Albariño. For red grape varieties, we concentrate on Pinot Noir, St. Laurent, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Hauck Wine Cellar

In the wine cellar, craftsmanship and passion meet, and with Jana and Heinz Günter Hauck, two generations now come together. With great sensitivity, the highest quality standards, and the careful use of modern cellar technology, wines bearing our signature are created here. We ferment most of our white wines in stainless steel tanks. After maceration, we allow our red wines an extended period of time in our barriques, where they can mature undisturbed.

Jana represents the next generation at the Hauck winery and has been fully involved in all areas of the business since 2017. After studying economics and family business management, she earned her doctorate in the field of family business research. She then joined the family business while simultaneously completing her vocational training in viticulture and oenology at the winery schools in Neustadt an der Weinstraße and Bad Kreuznach. Jana is a passionate successor who combines a thirst for knowledge with a love of (wine-related) travel and has gained practical experience at wineries in Germany and New Zealand.
